Xinmei Li ( Li Lao Shi)

Education:  2002-2004 Master's degree in Computer Science, CUNY

Most Recent Work Experience:

2007-present Chinese teacher in Grand Rapids Chinese Language School. 

Subjects Taught:  Chinese reading, writing, speaking, Chinese root, source, words, phrase, pinyin, Chinese history and culture.  

1993-1999: Computer operation, computer languages, Algorithm, and hardware. 

 

With years of teaching experience in both Chinese and Computer Science, we are combining Li Laoshi's talents and creating unique Chinese classes what student and the world demands.

Teacher – 2019-Now DFW New Star Mandarin Chinese School Teach Chinese and Math (In English) 1 day/week at New Star Mandarin Chinese School, including long-term assignments from grades 3 and 6 

Volunteer – 2019-Now Church Family Served as a Mandarin Chinese teacher for the American born Chinese children. Help kids to improve on listening, speaking and writing. 

Internship – 2019-2020 Education in Action Observed and lead road trips “Discover Texas Field Trip” for various school district students from grade 3-5. 

Tutor – 2017-2018 Dallas Baptist University Served as a college English tutor for international students who do not have any English background or lower-level. Helped students to improve on English vocabulary, grammar, and culture.

Xin Liu (GoGo Laoshi)

GoGo Laoshi teaches our Little Kids Arts & Crafts on Saturday mornings. She is familiar with the physical and psychological characteristics of children at various ages, and familiar with the teaching content and requirements of each age. Her expressive personality and ability to interact with children well makes her a fun teacher. Her classes are conducted in Chinese, but we do have a translator for each session. If you are wanting to immerse your child 5 & younger in Mandarin Chinese once a week, then sign up your child with GoGo Laoshi!

Vanessa Lambert

Vanessa is our KPop dance instructor. She has 20+ years of systematically trained dancer with 10+ years of teaching experience. Miss Vanessa is also a 2008 Beijing Olympics certified professional performer. Furthermore, she is a certified Chinese national level athlete and won a hip-hop championship gold medal in 2002.

Sarah Stromski

Miss Sarah graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2020. She has a degree education and knows how to teach English as a second language. Miss Sarah has two cats and loves to read. She's new to online teaching, but really excited to meet new English students!

Zhai Yue Laoshi

Zhai Yue studied in Tsukuba, Japan and obtained her Masters of Literature in Japanese education. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, proficient in Japanese, and knows conversational English. Zhai Laoshi previously worked in Tokyo and now is a Japanese teacher at Calvin. She can teach both Japanese and Chinese lessons. Lastly, fun fact about her, Zhai Laoshi has traveled extensively to many countries such as Sweden, Indonesia, Philippines, Denmark, Norway, and several more!

Alex Van Kuiken

Alex is co-teaching the Big Kids Debate Class on Saturday mornings. He is currently a student at University of Michigan. Alex has experience coaching middle schoolers after school to improve their public speaking. He was also an active debate student in middle and high school. With his knowledge and expertise, he can help kids prepare to be professional debaters.

Ms. Era Zhu (Zhu Laoshi)

Zhu Laoshi is from Shenzhen, China and obtained her Masters of Arts in Design from KACD. She is an easy-going teacher and has a strong interest nearly everything related to art, music, and design. She has experience teaching kindergarten and elementary school kids, also high school students. If you are interested in wanting a private tutor for digital painting, don't hesitate to book Ms. Era!

We are grateful that Shen Laoshi join our Academy since the beginning. She is passionate about creating fun and active learning classroom activities that kids will enjoy.  We are dedicated to create a real "immersion" language environment as soon as students step into the classroom.  A rewarding system will be in place to help our kids engage in active learning.   

Xiaodan Zhang (Ms. Ellie)

Ms. Ellie,  Master of Statistics, has been teaching mathematics and statistics in universities for 10 years and has diverse experience in teaching mathematics at the elementary level. She is also a volunteer teacher who has tutored many students from elementary age through college age, all with different educational backgrounds. As a passionate educator, she loves to show students the practical uses of mathematics. She strives to teach students that mathematics is accessible to all educational abilities. She enjoys helping students understand concepts, develop skills, and build confidence. 

Lulu Laoshi

Lulu Laoshi is our other volunteer math teacher. She has a vast experience teaching math to children. As of 2017, she is a paraprofessional for Brendel Elementary in Grand Blanc. Lulu is our current 8th and 9th grade math teacher. 

Miss Carine

Miss Carine is our volunteer French teacher. She grew up in France and is a native French speaker. Miss Carine has experience to teach French to all ages from elementary school to college-age students. With her different level of experience, she has the ability to assess your child's French learning level.

Miss Koré Qualls

Miss Koré lived in Japan for 12 years and is highly proficient in Japanese. She is a self-taught artist herself and enjoys drawing anime-style characters. Currently a student at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she is majoring in Japanese language. Miss Koré volunteered at Tohoku International School in Indonesia and worked on a construction project in a rural village. She also volunteered in Japan by giving away free snow-cones for people who were affected by the 3/11 earthquake and living in temporary housing units. As a Japanese language learner herself, Koré will be able to provide explanation of Japanese grammar and writing!
